When the Open-Air Museum opened its doors in 1978 the Association could already look back on 12 years of history. From the very beginning the Association of Eastern Swiss Patrons worked tirelessly towards anchoring the idea of a Swiss Open-Air Museum in the Bernese Oberland in the hearts and minds of the people in the east of Switzerland.
Without the many contacts and financial support of the Society, the Eastern Midlands building group - where winegrowing and crafts are presented - would never have become such a delightful area. The Eastern Swiss Patrons encourage an active club life by, for example, taking part in excursions with expert guides to the museum or organising a collective visit to the Country Theatre at Ballenberg.
